Weekend pricing in the UAE: Friday and Saturday nights

Since 2022 the UAE government weekend has been Saturday and Sunday, so the nights before a day off are Friday and Saturday, and in Sharjah Thursday as well. How to set the weekend rule for a UAE property.

A rental sells nights, and the nights guests want most are the ones before a day off. In most of the Gulf those are Thursday and Friday nights. In the UAE they are Friday and Saturday nights, and a host who copies a Saudi or Qatari rate plan puts the weekend premium one night early.

The weekend moved, so the nights moved

The UAE federal government works a four and a half day week. Since 1 January 2022, Saturday and Sunday have been the official weekend for the federal sector, and Friday is a half day that ends at noon, as the UAE government portal sets out. The same page says the governments of Abu Dhabi, Dubai, Ajman, Umm Al Quwain, Ras Al Khaimah and Fujairah adopted a similar week.

Sharjah is the exception. Its government works Monday to Thursday and takes Friday, Saturday and Sunday off, so for a Sharjah resident Thursday night is also a night before a day off.

The private sector does not follow one rule. The portal's page on private-sector leave guarantees at least one paid rest day a week and leaves the day to the employment contract or the company's rules. That is one more reason to read your own bookings rather than assume which week your guests keep.

Your guests decide the shape

Which nights fill first depends on whose weekend your guests keep.

A Dubai Marina apartment and a Ras Al Khaimah villa can therefore have different weekends even though both are in the UAE.

How JokerPrice reads the weekday shape

JokerPrice does not assume a weekend. When you price against the market, it compares each night's comparable asking prices with the median across fresh nights over the coming year. Once at least six fresh dates exist, with at least two samples for a weekday, the typical ratio for each weekday becomes the weekday pattern. A night with three comparables gives its own prices and the pattern equal weight; with twelve, its own prices carry four-fifths. A Dubai property learns Dubai's pattern from Dubai's comparables, so the shape follows the local week rather than a regional default.

The pricing demo shows this for Dubai, where it counts Friday and Saturday nights as the weekend. The pattern describes asking prices, not bookings; the article asking price is not achieved price explains the difference.

Setting the weekend rule

The weekend rule applies a premium or a discount on the nights you tick, plus a separate weekend minimum stay. Check which nights are ticked for a UAE property: they should normally be Friday and Saturday, with Thursday added in Sharjah or where your bookings show it.

Long weekends from public holidays

Public holidays next to a weekend make long weekends that a typical-week pattern cannot see. The UAE National Day holiday falls on , a Wednesday and Thursday. With Friday a half day for federal staff and the weekend after it, Tuesday night becomes a night before a day off, and a resident who takes the Friday has five days in a row. Schools close for . The Dubai Shopping Festival opens in the same week, which the guide to Dubai's winter peak covers.

New Year's Day 2027 is a Friday, , which joins the weekend into three days and makes Thursday night a night before a day off. Eid al-Fitr is expected on , Tuesday to Thursday, with schools out for , and Eid al-Adha on . Hijri dates move with the moon sighting, so the guide to Ramadan and the Eids by country explains how to price them while they are still expected.

Price nights like these as weekend nights, with a custom date rule or the national, religious and school event kinds, before the pattern has to guess. Event rules apply only to UAE dates for a UAE property: a Saudi or Qatari holiday never reaches it, so add a custom date rule if guests from a neighbouring country fill your nights on their holidays. Frequently asked questions

Which nights are the weekend for a rental in the UAE?

Friday and Saturday nights, because the government weekend has been Saturday and Sunday since January 2022. In Sharjah the government weekend starts on Friday, so Thursday night counts too.

Do private companies in the UAE follow the same weekend?

Not necessarily. The law guarantees at least one paid rest day a week and leaves the day to the contract or the company's rules, so check which nights your own guests book.

Should a UAE property use the same weekend as a Saudi one?

No. A Saudi property usually prices Thursday and Friday nights as the weekend, and a UAE property Friday and Saturday nights. Gulf visitors to the UAE may still arrive on Thursday night, so check your own bookings.

Will a Saudi holiday change prices for my Dubai property?

No. Event rules apply only to dates in the property's own country and city, so a Dubai property picks up UAE and Dubai dates only. If neighbouring holidays fill your nights, add them as custom date rules.
