Claude

Connect Claude Code or Claude Desktop. You need an API key from step 1 of Setup; the local server also needs the steps under Run it locally.

Claude Code

Add the hosted server from your terminal. --scope user makes it available in every project; leave it out to add it to the current project only.

Shell
claude mcp add --transport http --scope user jokerprice https://jokerprice.com/mcp --header "Authorization: Bearer ss_your_key_here"

Check it with claude mcp list, or /mcp inside a session.

To use the local server instead:

Shell
claude mcp add jokerprice --scope user --env JOKERPRICE_API_KEY=ss_your_key_here -- node /absolute/path/to/mcp/index.mjs

Share it with a project

To share the setup with your team without sharing a key, commit a .mcp.json at the project root and let each person keep their key in JOKERPRICE_API_KEY in their own environment. Claude Code expands ${VAR} references, including in headers.

.mcp.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jokerprice": {
      "type": "http",
      "url": "https://jokerprice.com/mcp",
      "headers": {
        "Authorization": "Bearer ${JOKERPRICE_API_KEY}"
      }
    }
  }
}

Claude Desktop

Claude Desktop's custom connectors (Settings → Connectors → Add custom connector) sign in to remote servers with OAuth and have no field for an API key header, so they cannot connect to JokerPrice yet. Use the hosted server through the mcp-remote bridge, or run the local server:

  1. Open Settings → Developer → Edit Config. This opens claude_desktop_config.json (on macOS in ~/Library/Application Support/Claude/, on Windows in %APPDATA%\Claude\).
  2. Add the server and save.
  3. Quit and reopen Claude Desktop. The JokerPrice tools appear in the tools menu of a new chat.

Hosted server, through mcp-remote (a third-party npm package that forwards the header; it needs Node.js):

claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jokerprice": {
      "command": "npx",
      "args": [
        "-y",
        "mcp-remote",
        "https://jokerprice.com/mcp",
        "--header",
        "Authorization:${JOKERPRICE_AUTH}"
      ],
      "env": {
        "JOKERPRICE_AUTH": "Bearer ss_your_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Local server:

claude_desktop_config.json
{
  "mcpServers": {
    "jokerprice": {
      "command": "node",
      "args": [
        "/absolute/path/to/mcp/index.mjs"
      ],
      "env": {
        "JOKERPRICE_API_KEY": "ss_your_key_here"
      }
    }
  }
}

Try it

Ask: “Using JokerPrice, which five cities have the highest revenue per listing, and how many listings are tracked in each?” Claude asks permission before the first tool call.

Claude on the web

Claude on the web adds remote servers as custom connectors, which sign in with OAuth. JokerPrice authenticates with API keys, so use Claude Code or Claude Desktop for now.
